Rabies has been around for over 4,000 years, and has one of the highest fatality rates of any disease – it is almost always fatal. Nowadays, it is entirely preventable with modern vaccines and, by rights, it should be consigned to the history books. However, rabies is still at large and causing terrible suffering, mostly in marginalised and impoverished communities.

Each year worldwide millions of farm animals are transported on harsh long journeys taking them to slaughterhouses or for fattening.

At World Animal Net, we're pleased to partner with BuscaFuska to help them reach animal shelters across the world, making it easier for these shelters to find forever homes for the animals in their care. Below is a message from BuscaFuska's founder, Antonio Exsome, about their new expansion.

On Saturday mornings I visit an animal sanctuary in rural Maryland where I join a small team of volunteers tending to farm animals rescued from neglect or abuse. Some of these animals will never fully trust a human, while others want to interact.

Many of us work long and hard to help dogs, and the communities they live amongst, to live in a more harmonious coexistence. Whether through sterilisation, vaccination, persuading owners to take better care of their dogs or rehoming the unwanted; these, and many other activities, fall under the banner of humane dog population management (DPM). But how do we know we are actually making a difference? This can be a very hard question to ask. It’s tough to find we are not making the difference we aimed for, but surely it’s better to know that now and change our approach than waste our efforts without benefiting the dogs? And if we are making a difference, imagine how powerful concrete evidence of that difference could be? We could gain greater security in funding, stronger support from governments leading to policy and legislative change, and a more engaged and appreciative public.

This week we are exploring the new world of crowdfunding: what it is and how to do it. To answer these questions, we reached out to innovative crowdfunding website LoveAnimals.org. The only free crowdfunding site focused exclusively on animal causes, this nonprofit was launched in 2013. Since then, it has been outperforming other crowdfunding sites, both for- and nonprofit. We spoke with them to get their insights into the world of crowdfunding for animals.

Though large companies have a huge impact on animals, they communicate little sense of responsibility for their welfare. This is the sad conclusion of a study I carried out with Professor Muel Kaptein at RSM Erasmus University Rotterdam. Less than half of the 200 largest companies in the world (from Fortune Global 500) make statements of responsibility toward animals on their websites. The other 53% do not mention responsibilities toward animals at all on their websites.

We at AAP Rescue Centre for Exotic Animals were very happy to see the new Dutch Positive List for mammals coming into force on the 1st of February. After 22 years of campaigning together with other animal welfare organizations, it is a huge milestone.
